Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Market Intelligence is used by companies of all sizes to better understand the market in which they operate, their competitors, emerging trends, and overall business landscape. It helps them to frame their overall strategy.
The Atlantic Market Intelligence service procures high quality reports from respected databases such as: Frost & Sullivan and IBISWorld, and from a wide variety of other sources, across industries.
Your venture should be tech focused (this is broadly interpreted), with owned or developing intellectual property. During the Discovery Call, the analyst will explore the specifics of your business need and situation, and discuss which elements from our menu of options are a good fit to assist you. All clients must have a presence in Atlantic Canada. Normally this means the business is headquartered in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, or Newfoundland & Labrador.
Clients need to be willing to participate in the process: this is a sought-after service and while we are happy to meet with any prospective client for an initial discussion, those who choose to receive MI are expected to respond to emails and follow the process outlined. It is not a big time commitment, and participation is essential to getting value out of the program.
Typical timelines are as follows:
- Discovery Call: within 3 weeks
- Initial research after Discovery Call: 1-3 business days
- Acquisition of reports from databases 5-10 business days, less in some cases
- Data Review: approx. 3-4 weeks from receipt of reports
- Straightforward emailed requests from existing clients: 1-2 business days
We process multiple client files at once, all at different stages. This cadence takes that into account. Processing times may vary. This is an estimate only.
The MI program is meant to support entrepreneurs in Atlantic Canada. This is your business; it’s up to you to figure out how to take this business forward. We will assist you with secondary research data. Market intelligence is about perspective, but we won't tell you what to do or do all the work for you.
While clients may get reports and a summary document from the manager of the MI program, companies are still responsible to review the data, make sense of it, and create whatever they require from it. This program is also not a free consultant to Google things for you. If you need a full analysis, go-to-market strategy, etc., a consultant may be a more appropriate entity to engage, & in some cases, we can refer you.
Some questions that are outside of our scope, such as pricing, are suited to your customer discovery, for which for we encourage you to seek advice from your innovation hub, if applicable. Innovation hubs can include the project partners such as: Venn Innovation, Genesis, Invest NS, Volta, or StartUpZone, and other organizations.
