What is Market Intelligence?
WHAT IS MARKET INTELLIGENCE?
Market intelligence is information on your industry or market segment that can be used to inform your overall growth, business or market strategy, and to give your venture a competitive advantage. Companies of all sizes can use market intelligence to better understand market landscape factors such as competitors, market size estimates, technology trends, and investment activity. By its very nature, market intelligence is about perspective. It can’t necessarily tell you the exact number of “X” that is out there, but it can probably tell you about the trends involving “X”, how it relates to “Y” and other interconnections that may not be readily apparent.
An example of a conversation between our guide and the client:
Client: Hi, I need help understanding my market.
Our guide: Great, I can help you with that. Please tell me a bit about your company and main product.
Client: My company has a scale-able software-as-a-service platform for connecting veterinarians with clients for house calls. We operate in one city now and have a few clients, but we are hoping to expand.
Our guide: Sounds good, do you know of any direct and indirect competitors, what sets your company apart? Have you explored things like regulations, & liability insurance?
Client: I’m not sure about local competition, but we want to become a national broker of pet-care services.
Our guide: Let’s talk about the specifics of your product offering to try to identify competitors and learn about the market for this. What other information would you like to know?
Client: I am looking for market sizing information, possible seed investors, technology trends, and to get a high-level view of the market landscape.
Our guide: you have come to the right place.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE PROGRAM
The Atlantic Market Intelligence (MI) Program provides startups with access to premium research data, services, and support to help them understand their market and to inform their strategies.
To get the most useful and relevant information out of the program, client participation is needed. You will be asked a series of questions to assess fit for our menu of services, and to get into the nitty-gritty of the research area. This service is intended to complement startups’ own research efforts and due diligence.
This opportunity is provided at no cost to entrepreneurs.
Relevant, available pre-existing industry reports may be limited in terms of the degree to which they directly answer questions specific to your business need. After getting a sense of what you are looking for, the MI Program Manager will explore additional options and then advise you if other types of information are known to be available.
Please be advised that pricing, lead generation, mailing lists, patent searches, counts, and primary research are outside our scope at this time. Also, if information is available at all for hyper-specialized demographic or market segment data, advertising spends, and customer spending patterns, it will be limited in most cases.
If you are an entrepreneur based in Atlantic Canada and you have an interest in MI but aren't sure if your needs match our program, please visit our FAQs page to learn more.
